NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Yale transfer Paul Atkinson
Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines have a top-10 recruiting class building up, led by a trio of four-star perimeter players. Assuming top-30 freshman big Hunter Dickinson stays around for more than one year, the team will have a good roster to work with. Yet, assuming that Franz Wagner does go pro after this season, the team will need to find a quality power forward, maybe one with experience?
Michigan’s first choice would be five-star power forward prospect Caleb Houstan, who has them among his final four. If not him or Patrick Baldwin, Jr., Atkinson would be a great player to add to fill in at that position. The staff already is used to recruiting former Ivy League stars, picking up Columbia grad transfer Mike Smith this offseason.
Seton Hall Pirates
The Pirates are in a similar situation as Michigan. They also landed an Ivy League star this offseason (Harvard’s Bryce Aiken), have a quality recruiting class led by top-60 wing Brandon Weston and have a clear need of a scoring frontcourt option after this season, once Sandro Mamukelashvili graduates.
Seton Hall does have Tyrese Samuel and Missouri transfer Tray Jackson but with just Ike Obiagu at center, the team still could use some depth. Compared to the other Big East teams on this list, Atkinson would have an easier time making it to the NCAA Tournament if he would pick the Pirates. His skillset would work great with this team and could thrive actually.
