NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Yale transfer Paul Atkinson
Stanford Cardinal
Atkinson could very well want to stay at a great academic institution, while still having a shot at playing in the NCAA Tournament. No offense, but that would take both Northwestern and Vanderbilt out of the equation. The Cardinal has been killing it on the recruiting trail as of late, landing five-star freshman Ziarie Williams, as well as 2021 wing commit Harrison Ingram and top-40 point guard Isa Silva.
With star forward Oscar Da Silva graduating after this season, Atkinson can simply slide in to replace him and have a major impact, since Stanford doesn’t seem to have any other frontcourt options for the 2021-22 season. And the biggest selling point may be the ability to get degrees from both Yale and Stanford, which would set up Atkinson for life off the court.
Syracuse Orange
The frontcourt play for the Orange has been inconsistent but should be solid with both Bourama Sidibe and Marek Doležaj coming into their senior seasons. With both of them gone though, there will be a need to find a quality power forward. Top-40 recruit Arthur Kuluma is a top target but the team will need to find a replacement option in case he decides elsewhere.
Not only does Atkinson have the offensive capability to help balance out the roster alongside Buddy Boeheim and Joe Girard III, but his size and intellect would help him be an asset for the program’s famous 2-3 zone.
Paul Atkinson already has major power conference programs after him and will be a highly targeted transfer before the season starts. But he needs to be careful to not pick a team where he won’t play as much in his lone season left. In the right situation, the former Ivy League star can be one of the biggest impact transfers for the 2021-22 campaign.
