NCAA Basketball: Preseason Top-25 power rankings for 2020-21 season
There was a ton of roster turnover this offseason for the Ducks. The graduation of Pac-12 Player of the Year Payton Pritchard was a tough blow, while also losing seniors Anthony Mathis and Shakur Juiston. There were outgoing transfers as well, including CJ Walker, Isaac Okoro, and most recently, former top-50 guard recruit Addison Patterson.
The good news for the team is that they have a number of transfers to replace them. UNLV grad transfer Amauri Hardy averaged 14.5 ppg and 3.3 apg and will share the lead ball-handling duties with Will Richardson. Eric Williams, Jr. and Eugene Omoruyi will provide frontcourt production, with potentially St. John’s leading scorer LJ Figueroa eligible to play as well.
"Head Coach Dana Altman has called his team “an old team” and maturity will be a valuable commodity in a strange 2020-21 season where the only thing predictable will be that something unpredictable will happen. – Carter Chapley (@ChapleyMedia)"
There are two returning players tasked with leading the team this season. Senior guard Chris Duarte has the chance to lead Oregon in scoring, while former five-star recruit N’Faly Dante will be both healthy and academically eligible for all of this year. Look out for Chandler Lawson to have a big year as well, as he competes with the transfers for a rotational spot.
If the Ducks can have a clear lead guard to facilitate the offense, they’ll be in great shape to win the Pac-12 this season. But it won’t be easy for all of the transfers to gel. As talented as this roster is, things can go bad without a conductor.
