A look at the remainder of Dixie State’s rotation

Senior F/C  Jarod Greene

If Greene does not get the start, Greene should expect to be an impact 6-man. Greene was an extremely efficient shooter last year, going for 65% from the field and 6.2 points per game. Even with his sparring time last season, expect Greene’s name to be heard more and more as the season goes on.

Junior F Jacob Nicolds

Encouraging things came from Nicolds down the stretch as he started the final five games of the season. He led the team in FG% and averaged 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Nicolds is another candidate that can get some starts throughout the season, as he is capable of having a fantastic game.

This is most notable last year when he scored 17 points on perfect shooting. Nicolds was 5/5 from the floor and 6/6  from the free throw line in a win over Western Colorado. With the experience he brings, expect Nicolds to share some time with Staine and if Dixie State wants a big lineup, expect him to play along the perimeter.

Freshman G Emad Elniel

Rarely does a player like Elniel falls through the cracks as Elniel is the Freshman that can have a huge impact in Year 1 on campus. From Independence, Arizona, Elniel is an all-around player that left as Independence’s best player to come through. Elniel as a Senior in HS recorded 21.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.

With the Trailblazers having more depth, Elniel may not have as much of an impact as Staine may have had last year. However, it is highly unlikely that the talented Freshman will redshirt and should be a solid asset off the bench.

Sophomore F Josh Newbold

After accumulating seven starts last year, Newbold is looking to take more steps as an upperclassman. Newbold was a solid shooter, as he was 46% from the field and a respectable 75% from the free throw line.

With the added depth, Newbold may not have a certified starting spot. However, his contributions could be notable, with his consistency and his extra down low presence.
