Leader of Maryland Basketball – Daryll Morsell

There no question that the leader of this year’s Maryland team is Daryll Morsell. The 6-5 200lb Senior shooting guard from Baltimore, will be asked to step into the leadership role this year, as well as being the emotional leader, Maryland coach Mark Turgeon in a recent interview said “Morsell brings a cool energy to the group. He is proud of his toughness, which, he says, characterizes players from Baltimore. Morsell provides direction on the court, but he still plays loose and lets himself enjoy the game”.

Morsell must continue to be a defensive force for the Terp’s, as last year he was asked to be the defensive stopper and to shut down the opponent’s best players as he did several times over the course of last year. For a team that’s working to develop a strong defensive identity, Morsell is the centerpiece. Maryland once again this year should be solid on the defensive end of the floor and there is no doubt that Morsell is up to the challenge.

Morsell will be asked to do a lot this year, as he assumes his new leadership role. Maryland fans and coaching staff know he is ready to take over the reins. This a quote from Maryland coach Mark Turgeon and is from the 2020 – 2021 Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook “Darryls’ leadership through this whole virus and social injustice have been terrific, so I expect him to be a great leader for us”.

If he can overcome some of the turnovers and improve his free throw percentage and continue to be a juggernaut on the defensive end of the court, then Morsell should have an outstanding senior campaign, as the Big 10 conference will once again be one of the toughest conferences in the Country.
