NBA Draft 2020: Best prospect fit for each franchise among top 10 picks
By William Cash
3. Charlotte Hornets – James Wiseman
This was a tossup for me. Lamelo Ball was an interesting fit here as well. But, I think Wiseman would be a better fit in Charlotte. As the Hornets have Terry Rozier at guard who they just gave a big contract and Devonte’ Graham who was a breakout star last season, yet he is 25 so there’s no way he can be a guy that Charlotte makes their franchise player.
They have wings in Malik Monk, Dwayne Bacon, and Miles Bridges and a nice front-court player in P.J. Washington. But, there’s a void at center and Cody Zeller has been solid but is not that franchise center. That’s why I think Wiseman is perfect here.
Wiseman is an athletic specimen with an amazing vertical. Offensively Wiseman is very raw and in his rookie season, he will best as a rim runner and a rebounder.
However, the potential is there offensively as his shooting mechanics are good and his post-up game could be amazing if he learns more advanced moves. Wiseman’s strength is defense as he will be able to use his athleticism and be a very good rim protector.
Charlotte needs a franchise player and Wiseman could be that guy. As Malik Monk has been somewhat of a bust, Miles Bridges has been solid but not superstar level, P.J. Washington has been good and shown promise but is not quite that franchise guy, and Devonte’ Graham who is already 25 could be hitting the peak of his prime. If Charlotte can land James Wiseman, Michael Jordan and Mitch Kupchak have their franchise player of the future.
