Schedule Outlook

The Virginia Tech Hokies haven’t shared much when it comes to their schedule other than announcing their non-conference tournament that will be played prior to ACC play.

They’ll appear in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun Arena on Nov. 28-29 where they’ll face off against the likes of Rhode Island/Temple/South Florida in a bracket-style tournament. So, they at least have two of their games set in stone in November.

Another recent announcement was the Hokies participation in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, facing off against a familiar foe in the Penn State Nittany Lions on Dec. 8 at home. Penn State is 3-0 against the Hokies in Challenge games with a recent 63-62 back in 2019.  With head coach Pat Chambers gone and turmoil surrounding the program, it will be interesting to see how the Hokies, a team in Year 2 of new beginnings, perform in this challenge (Pun intended).

As far as conference play goes, the ACC is still expected to release a 20-game schedule in the coming weeks. The Hokies are definitely a much better team from a season ago and that should show in the win-loss column. They’ll be a young squad but with the mix of seniors and upperclassmen they have, don’t be surprised to see them in the top half of the conference when it’s all said and done.

Here’s a look at a potential outlook of opponents the Hokies could face (based on past/future schedules):

Home/Away: Miami, Virginia, Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest.
Home Only: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, and Georgia Tech.
Away Only: North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse.
