3. Buddy Hield – G Oklahoma (2012-2016)

Career Stats (4 seasons): 17.4 PPG, 5 RPG, 84% FT, 45% FG

When looking at Hield’s numbers, it is misleading as to how much buzz surrounded the man, that lead Oklahoma to a Final Four appearance back in 2016. Prior to Trae Young, Hield was the most dangerous three-point shooter to come through the Oklahoma program and in Big 12 History.

Hield had broken the Big 12 record, set by Baylor G LaceDarius Dunn for the most three-pointers in a career. The 6-4 guard from Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas started his collegiate career as a role player, with occasional starts. He averaged 7.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and almost two assists, on 48% shooting from two-point range. Oklahoma was a solid 20-12 on the year in finished in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Hield would repeat that success in his sophomore year with a 24-11 record and finishing in the Second Round once again. Hield would make his biggest jump by far as a Senior. With so many monumental moments, Hield would have Oklahoma at #1 in the AP Poll.

The senior star would put up monstrous numbers in notable games and willingly carry Oklahoma to a lot of victories. Whether it be 46 points at Allen Fieldhouse, 33 points in Austin, 39 points in the Big 12 Tournament against Iowa State, or his 37 point performance against Oregon in the Elite 8, beating The Dillon Brooks-led Ducks. Hield always had his best memories on the biggest stages.

He would end his Oklahoma career with three All-Big 12’s, two-time Big 12 Player of the Year, and two National Player of the Year awards in the Naismith and Wooden.

Hield’s four-year career did raise some questions as the next level. However, his shot and intangibles still made him a very interesting prospect and someone that could last in the league. Hield would be drafted #6 overall, taken by the New Orleans Pelicans. He would be traded to the Sacramento Kings, where he has filled a nice role with them.
