Big 12 Basketball: Ranking of top 20 overall players since 2000
By Andrew Tineo
17. Jawun Evans – G Oklahoma State (2015-2017)
Career Stats (2 seasons): 16.6 PPG, 5.8 APG, 40.7% 3P
The former 27th ranked recruit from Kimball HS in Dallas was the biggest signing under Travis Ford, apart from Marcus Smart. In just 22 games played, Jawun Evans was shooting the ball at an extremely high level. Good enough for almost 13 points, 4.4 rebounds, almost five assists, and an astonishing 47% 3 point percentage.
Evans was hands down, the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, and Big 12 Rookie of the Year. Even with that, Oklahoma State could not find success on the court, which would end the tenure of Travis Ford.
New Head Coach Brad Underwood came in and his scheme fit around Evans perfectly. The star exploded, averaging 19 points, to go along with 6.4 assists per contest. Even with the lack of success, Evans’ production could not be denied.
The main issue at the next level was Evans’ height. Standing at 6’0 tall, Evans knack was his ability to have quality measurables to be a solid NBA player. Although he had a good tenure in the NBA, Evans wasn’t able to have a massive impact on one franchise, as he was moved around the league and is a role player to this day.
