Mac McClung’s eligibility
One of the biggest impact transfers to announce his intentions was Georgetown G Mac McClung. There was uncertainty for quite some time as to whether McClung would be eligible for this season or have to wait till next. With the news of him being eligible, he immediately brings an explosiveness and electricity to Beard’s squad.
Kyler Edwards is one of the best guards in the country as he landed among The “Top 15 Player from the Big 12” article. Adding onto that was Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in F/C Marcus Santos-Silva. That title might be given to McClung as he brings a new element that Texas Tech has not seen before.
Prior to his commitment to Georgetown, McClung was an internet phenom for his elite passing and dunking ability.
McClung to the surprise of very few was an immediate impact player for the Hoyas. He averaged 13.1 PPG as a Freshman and improved that mark to 15.7 PPG. McClung’s ability of explosiveness and ball-handling looks reminiscent of Russell Westbrook. His ability to score at the rim and handle the ball so well makes him unique.
Although McClung is not efficient from the field, the highlight-reel plays that he makes, to go along with his elite ability to score at the rim makes him so dangerous on the court. He’s an average defender but can play well when he needs to.
McClung is so unique that he thinks he makes that much of a difference against Texas. Big plays and momentum shifts is what is needed. Mac McClung plays like he’s been producing at Georgetown could give the Red Raiders the upper hand.
