ACC Basketball: 5 bold predictions for 2020-21 season
ACC Rookie of Year is not from Duke
If one looks at the talent that is joining the ACC for the 2020-21 season, betting on the Rookie of the Year not coming from the Duke Blue Devils is not unbelievable.
The Recruiting Services Consensus Index (RSCI) which combines the rankings from Verbal Commits, ESPN, Rivals, and 24/7Sports into a single consensus ranking placed Scottie Barnes (FSU) No.5, Day’Ron Sharpe (UNC) No.12, and Caleb Love (UNC) No.13, but because history should not be overlooked, it is No.11 on the RSCI, Jalen Johnson is getting all the preseason attention as the Rookie of the Year.
At 6’9″ Johnson can play any position, it just depends on which media outlet you look at. Regardless of where he plays on the floor, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native will be looking to join the six Blue Devils’ players who have captured ACC Rookie of the Year honors over the past seven seasons. Johnson is not the only projected first-round NBA draft pick, nor is he the only five-star recruit in the ACC, which boasts eight this season.
Johnson is not even the sole five-star recruit on Duke who has four in total for the third-highest ranked recruiting class in the nation, slightly behind North Carolina as well as Kentucky at number one. Predicting who in fact will be the ACC Rookie of the Year is slightly bolder than I am willing to go, it will not, however, be a Blue Devil.
