15. Kedrian Johnson – West Virginia Mountaineers

Temple College

The 6’4 guard had a tremendous past season, going for over 25 ppg and five rebounds and assists a game. A true shooting guard, Johnson can score in a variety of ways and can play pretty good defense, a prerequisite for getting minutes on a Bob Huggins’ coached team.

West Virginia has no issue with its frontcourt with Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe back but needs much more from its perimeter. Not a single guard scored in double figures last season but has a promising young guard in Miles McBride. If Johnson can be a double-digit scorer for the Mountaineers, that raises the team’s ceiling to a potential Final Four contender.

14. DeAndre Heckard – Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks

Tyler JC

Any JUCO transfer that gets the attention of the Lumberjacks coaching staff should be viewed in high regard. The 6’1 point guard averaged 12.7 ppg and 6.0 apg last season while making nearly 40% of his three-point attempts. He has the potential to be a great individual scorer but prefers to facilitate and get his teammates involved on offense.

The absence of starting point guard John Comeaux (2.3 apg) provides a clear opportunity for Heckard to come in and play big minutes for SFA. He doesn’t need to average 15 ppg since the team returns plenty of production. If he can handle facilitating at the D-I level, the Lumberjacks will continue to dominate the Southland Conference.

13. Trevin Wade – Wichita State Shockers

GA Highlands College

Joining his brother Trey, Trevin is one of a number of newcomers on the roster after a transfer exodus. He was another All-American mention, averaging 17.6 ppg and 4.5 apg last season and making 35% from deep. Wade is a consistently good scorer and it should translate to Wichita State this season.

There’s no telling how the rotation will look for the Shockers, or even who the head coach will be by opening tip-off. UConn grad transfer Alterique Gilbert is a good off-guard when healthy while returning guards Tyson Etienne and Dexter Dennis are also solid shooting guards. However, none of them are true point guards, which is where Wade can carve out his minutes and have a big impact this season.
