Reserves

Josh Carlton

I’m still a believer in Josh and have heard he’s dropped some weight, he started last season off really well but eventually ended up being replaced by Whaley in the starting lineup at the end of the season. Carlton will get minutes and hopefully, we’ll see the Carlton we saw at the beginning of the season. I imagine Carlton will get a chance to start the games and will rotate in and out with Whaley depending on matchups and foul trouble.

Tyrese Martin

The Rhode Island transfer got himself a waiver and will be eligible for this season, at 12.8 points per game and 7 rebounds he’ll find himself in the rotation and perhaps even starting in place of Jackson. An all-around player at 6-6 he can play in a number of different spots and will be a valuable addition for this season.

Akok Akok

Likely won’t be ready for a while but Sanogo is one of the nation’s premier shot blockers. UConn just recently inked his high school teammate Samson Johnson for the class of 2021 also. Coming off a torn Achilles Hurley had mentioned that there was a lot of disruption in his recovery, I imagine the Huskies will play it safe with him given the teams great depth in the frontcourt.

Jalen Gaffney

One of my biggest breakout candidates for the Huskies, I think Gaffney is in for a big year. Starting in 11 games this past season, a majority of them down the stretch, a nice sophomore jump will find him coming off the bench and contributing in a solid backcourt.

Brendan Adams

A reliable option off the bench, Adams provides much-needed depth and experience in the backcourt. The Huskies relied on his outside shooting in multiple games last season. He has a next man up mentality and is a great guard to have coming off your bench.

Easily the deepest team UConn has had in some time I’ll get crucified if I don’t mention Adama Sanogo and Javonte Ferguson, two bigs that could both see significant minutes early on, especially with the likely absence of Akok. An exciting and deep bench is capped off by Richie Springs who likely won’t see a lot of minutes this season but is a stash for the future.
