Big 12 Basketball: Top 10 prospects for 2020 NBA Draft
By Nick Raponi
2. Jahmi’us Ramsey, G, Texas Tech
DOB:
- June 9, 2001 (19)
SIZE:
- 6’4″, 195 lbs
PROS:
- Good all-around scorer
- Solid athlete
- Oozing with two-way potential
- When he’s hot, he’s hot
CONS:
- When he’s cold, he’s cold
- Needs to become a better playmaker
- Inconsistent shooter
DRAFT GRADE:
- Late 1st Round – Early 2nd Round
Jahmi’us Ramsey is a player who is just 19 years old and has elite potential. A good scorer from all over the court who is nearly unstoppable when he’s hot, Ramsey could be a nice bench piece in the NBA right off-the-bat. The negatives with his game are his scoring consistency and the fact that he forces the agenda offensively at times; however, at 19, these issues can be corrected.
A combo guard who can score the rock at will, Ramsey has a lot of room to grow and improve the other areas of his game that need work. I fully expect Ramsey to be gone by pick 35, but don’t be surprised if he goes as high as 20 due to his youth and raw potential.
1. Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
DOB:
- March 1, 2000 (20)
SIZE:
- 6’5″, 172 lbs
PROS:
- Incredibly high basketball IQ
- Very long for a guard
- Great playmaker
- Active hands
- Solid scorer
CONS:
- Inconsistent with his shooting
- Weird shooting mechanics
- Too aggressive defensively
- Strength could be an issue
DRAFT GRADE:
- Lottery/Early 1st Round
Tyrese Haliburton has quite a few qualities you want from a guard at the NBA level – a high IQ, length, and unselfishness. On top of being one of the smartest players on the court at all times, Haliburton can also score from all areas when asked to do so. On the defensive end Haliburton has the length and hands to cause havoc, he just needs to work on getting a bit stronger.
On the other side of the card, Haliburton does have a few flaws. For example, his shooting is quite inconsistent and the ball does not look pretty coming out of his hand. As well, the aforementioned lack of strength could cause issues, but that is a flaw that can easily be fixed with the right training program.
All things considered don’t be surprised if Haliburton goes in the top five, but I am very confident he is off the board by pick 10.
