NCAA Basketball: Villanova, UConn and Rutgers among Corey Floyd Jr. top 8
UConn Huskies
The Huskies have plenty of perimeter talent that either aren’t seniors on the current roster, including James Bouknight, Brendan Adams, Jalen Gaffney, and RJ Cole. There also are a pair of four-star 2021 commits on board in Jordan Hawkins and Rahsool Diggins. The move back to the Big East has already paid off for the program and Floyd Jr. could very well join as well. But similar to other situations, it’ll be hard to see how he’ll play early on.
Villanova Wildcats
The Wildcats will need a new capable ball-handler once Collin Gillespie graduates after this season. There is current top-150 commit Angelo Brizzi and four-star shooting guard Jordan Longino part of the 2021 class but Floyd Jr. can certainly find a role in any future Wildcat rotation. Playing for Coach Jay Wright and the program’s great history of long-term development may make Villanova too hard to pass up for this prospect, especially since it’s fairly close to home as well.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Head coach Steve Forbes has been on the recruiting trail hard since taking over, landing several talented prospects already. One is top-100 point guard Carter Whitt Jr., set to join the program next season. There’s also four-star class of 2021 commit Robert McCray V also. While Floyd Jr. can easily find himself landing an early role on this rebuilding program, Whitt’s presence may force him to play more off that ball than he may want to.
Among the eight options, it looks as if Providence, Rutgers, Auburn and Florida gives Corey Floyd Jr. the best chance at playing time as a freshman. Of course, all of these rosters will undergo various changes in the next year and a half. We’ll see if any of them can emerge as the best potential landing spot during this recruitment, which is only in its beginning stages.
