2. Tyrell Terry, G, Stanford

DOB:

  • September 28, 2000 (20)

SIZE:

  • 6’2″, 160 lbs

PROS:

  • Very high basketball IQ
  • Good shooter
  • Above-average playmaker
  • Great rebounder for his size

CONS:

  • Lacks effort defensively
  • Needs to get stronger to become a better defender

DRAFT GRADE:

  • Mid-to-late 1st Round

Tyrell Terry is a player who impressed thoroughly during his only season at Stanford, often filling the stat sheet in many categories. Terry is a very smart point guard who usually makes the right decision with the ball, whether it be shooting, passing, or driving to the net. On top of that, he is a great rebounder for his size, which is an overlooked skillset when it comes to Terry.

The only major knocks on Terry are his strength and his effort on the defensive end, both of which can be fixed with the right coaching and training program. While I know I’m higher on Terry than most, I still expect him to be selected between picks 12-22.

1. Onyeka Okongwu, C, USC

DOB:

  • December 11, 2000 (19)

SIZE:

  • 6’9″, 245 lbs

PROS:

  • Extraordinary athlete
  • Elite rim protector
  • Good post scorer
  • Great rebounder
  • Still young

CONS:

  • Lacks scoring versatility
  • Not a great shooter
  • A bit lazy defensively at times

DRAFT GRADE:

  • Early-to-mid 1st Round

Onyeka Okongwu is a player who wows everybody who watches him with his freak athleticism and exciting play. Okongwu has the potential to be a defensive weapon in my eyes, as he is both a terrific and smart shot-blocker who moves well in comparison to other centers across the league.

He can also score well in the paint and rebound at an above-average rate, all of which are appealing traits to teams selecting early in the first round.

The only real negatives I can find in Okongwu’s game are his inability to stretch out offensively and the fact that he can often check out mentally on defense. However Okongwu is still very young and extremely raw, so I can see a team easily turning his negative qualities into positives in no time. Don’t be surprised if Okongwu goes in the top five, but I definitely expect him to be gone by pick 10.
