Oregon Basketball: 2020-21 season preview for the Ducks
Key Reserves
N’Faly Dante
Heading back for his second season for the Ducks will be sophomore 6-foot-11 center N’Faly Dante (5.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg). As a former five-star recruit heading out of high school, Dante will look to take a massive step up in his second season.
He only appeared in 12 games as a freshman and averaged just 13.6 minutes per game. This season, Dante should be able to have his playing time increased significantly, while even being inserted into the starting lineup if Altman chooses to go big to open games.
Dante is the only player on the roster that gives Oregon a size advantage. Both projected starting forwards, Omoruyi and Williams, are listed at 6-foot-6.
With the small sample size of playing time last season, Dante was able to shoot the ball efficiently from the floor, making the most of his opportunities in the low post. He converted on 62.7 percent of his shots and did all his scoring inside.
I expect major improvements this season from Dante, as he shot a low 40 percent at the free-throw line and couldn’t put together a big showing offensively and defensively during his freshman season.
As a big-time recruit, Dante has potential to breakout and improve as a low-post scorer, shooter, rebounder, and shot blocker. I expect him to log in plenty of minutes this season. I wouldn’t be shocked if Dante was named as the Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year if he is able to take a giant leap as a sophomore.
Chandler Lawson
Back for his second season for the Ducks will be sophomore forward Chandler Lawson (4.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg). He was a four-star recruit out of high school and averaged 19.5 minutes per game last season while making 12 starts.
Lawson showed last season that he could have a bright future at Oregon. He made 51.9 percent of his shots as a freshman. Lawson posted a career-high 16 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with making 7-of-12 shots from the floor, against Washington in January.
Along with his sophomore teammate Dante, Lawson should be able to see an uptick in minutes and play a crucial role off the bench during his second season.
Jalen Terry
Entering this season, Oregon will have zero five-star incoming recruits, marking the first time since 2016. New to the roster will be four-star freshman point guard, Jalen Terry, who was rated as the number two recruit from the state of Michigan.
Terry should be a great addition for the future of the program. He is the only freshman on the roster that is expected to make a impact during his freshman season.
Terry was a Mr. Basketball finalist in Michigan during his senior year of high school. He averaged 20.4 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 2.6 steals per game at Beecher High School in Mount Morris, MI.
According to Oregon Live.com, the Ducks will be without Terry for quite some time as he has a sprained ankle.
Not having Terry to start the season is a big loss for Oregon as far as depth on the roster. Terry was expected to be the backup point guard to Richardson.
Lök Wur
Expected to see court time during his first season will be redshirt freshman forward Lök Wur. He was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2019.
During his senior year of high school, Wur averaged 20.8 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, 2.5 blocks per game, and 1.5 assists per game at Papillion-La Vista South High School in Nebraska.
