The Tar Heels should finish at the top of the ACC

It’s early but the North Carolina Tar Heels looked like a completely different team against the College of Charleston in their 79-60 victory. The Tar Heels went on a 17-0 that saw them running away with the lead and when the buzzer read zeroes, four players finished scoring in double figures and two finished with double figures in rebounds.

Armando Bacot set the tone for North Carolina with 12 points eight rebounds and three blocks. Garrison Brooks put up six points and 11 rebounds. It’s hard to imagine, Brooks had just six points in a 19-point win but let’s just say, there’s less pressure on him now with a new crop of talent around him.

Freshman Day’Ron Sharpe had a strong debut in his first game as a Tar Heel. He posted 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block in 22 minutes of action in the victory. Walker Kessler, another freshman forward had six points and four rebounds in five minutes of action.

In the backcourt, freshman R.J. Davis and Caleb Love held their own as well. Love led the way with a game-high 17 points while going 8-of-8 from the free throw line and dishing out four assists. Davis had 11 points and four rebounds.

The Tar Heels didn’t shoot the ball particularly well in Game 1 but they battled and found a way to win. Look for this squad to grow a ton over the next few months in the ACC.
