Villanova has other goals

Do not make the mistake and think that a single-digit victory over Boston College means the Wildcats are not a top-five team in the nation. One must also realize that despite a one-point game with under three minutes remaining, the Wildcats were never going to lose this game.

The Associated Press, Villanova fans, national sports media, and Jay Wright all know the Wildcats are capable of reaching the Final Four this season, and this game does nothing to change that. Similar to every college basketball team in the nation, the Wildcats have not played a basketball game in eight months and this was a good opponent to practice against.

While Virginia was impressive versus Townson and Illinois looked great against North Carolina Central, Coach Wright is using the 2K Empire Classic exactly how he planned to use it prior to all this uncertainty, he is going to use it to play quality non-conference opponents in preparation to win the Big East.

The cliche is ‘a win is a win’, but the goal is not to win the 2K Empire Classic in November, and similar to how Villanova clamped down and performed in the clutch moments Wednesday night, they will do the same come March.
