Michigan State Basketball: 3 takeaways from Spartans win over Notre Dame
Joey Hauser would have and will make them favorites
If Redshirt junior Joey Hauser would have received his eligibility after his transfer from Marquette last season, the Spartans would have been the favorites going into March. If the Spartans have Hauser on the roster next season, they will be favorites entering October.
Granted No. 15 recruit Max Christie and fellow No. 72 recruits Pierre Brooks and Jaden Atkins and the possible reclassification of Emoni Bates would contribute, they will not diminish the importance of Hauser.
With 2019-20 being the season of the past and 2021-22 being the season yet to come, Joey Hauser is going to be the key for the present season. Hauser’s importance was particularly highlighted Saturday night versus Notre Dame. Hauser shot just 4-11 for ten points, but his presence at the foul line was instrumental in picking apart the Irish’s zone defense.
At 6’9 and armed with the ability to make shots from the ‘free to three’ makes him the centerpiece the Spartans need in order to remain one of the top point-producing teams in the Big Ten. Hauser will continue to fill the box score with points, rebounds, and assists throughout the season. His ten points Saturday is no indication of his importance
