Gonzaga Bulldogs

Over the past few years, Gonzaga has made it clear very early on in the season how competitive it plans to be on the national scale. Week one of this year was no different, as Gonzaga topped Kansas 102-90 and then followed it up with a 23-point beatdown of Auburn. Gonzaga was definitely the most dominant team of week one, and picked up the two most convincing wins.

These performances are just another example of Gonzaga sending a message to the NCAA Basketball world that its mission is to obtain a #1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. With week one putting them off to a good start, the Bulldogs will also have a few more chances to do so prior to the beginning of conference play.

Their dominance over Kansas and Auburn this past week is a product of excellent all-around play by Gonzaga’s forwards and guards alike. Neither team had an answer for Sophomore forward Drew Timme. At 6’10, Timme has already shown off his ability to threaten from underneath the basket as well as mid-range. Senior forward Corey Krispert is even more dynamic.

The scary thing for Gonzaga’s opponents is that their frontcourt is not where their offensive firepower ends. The backcourt led by Jalen Suggs and Joel Ayayi arguably makes them the deadliest all-around team in NCAA Basketball.

It will be great to see how the rest of the season plays out for this Gonzaga team. It is easy to see that their performance in week one already helps out their chances to secure a one seed. Gonzaga may be the biggest bracketology winner.
