Texas Tech Basketball: 3 takeaways from first loss of season to Houston

2. All the recipes for a loss came together for the Red Raiders
Normally, when a team can’t finish the job, it’s because of a certain aspect that they struggled in. That was not the case as Texas Tech simply did not play good, in just about every statistical category. Tech made just four of their 18 three-point attempts and shot just slightly over 50% from the charity stripe (54.2%).
Tech would be outrebounded by the Cougars, 36-31, and finished with 18 turnovers on just seven assists. This is a team that clearly had gotten too comfortable with their first two games and simply were overwhelmed when trying to put together consistent offense when they needed to the most.
The big play from VCU Transfer Marcos Santos-Silva was not to be seen tonight. After getting double-doubles in their first two wins, he was limited tonight to just four points and five rebounds. He was not the only guy to not have much of an impact from the new guys as Joel Ntwambwe (UNLV) and Jamarius Burton (Wichita State) did not score at all and had very limited minutes.
It was an all-around sloppy game for Texas Tech as they did nothing really well and still made this a six-point game under the five-minute mark. Even if this did not look like a game Tech deserved to win, this shows that Tech can win an ugly game, even ones that they do not deserve to.
