Play Fast but in Control

An early observation for the Huskies is that they thrive getting out in transition and getting quick shots. Watching UConn run the halfcourt offense this season especially against a zone defense has not been a pleasure to watch. Often times the Huskies were forced into poor jump shots and when they weren’t falling the offense would stall.

James Bouknight has been for the most part able to get to the rim at will and score, with the shot blockers USC has Bouknight will need to get creative and go up strong. Bouknight is the best scorer the Huskies have and they’ll continue to rely on him when they need a clutch basket.

Getting out on transition starts on the defensive end, UConn will need to get on the boards and look for the outlet man. Creating chaos through blocks and tipped balls are a great way for the Huskies to get out and run a little bit. Gaffney and Cole have both done a good job at distributing and taking care of the basketball, Gaffney has just one turnover in 60 minutes of play.

UConn is going to face a tough task offensively and will need to crash the boards hard, USC will really hurt you on the offensive glass. Grabbing defensive rebounds and getting the ball out is vital.
