Matt Coleman III has given Texas Longhorns fans something to cheer about in 2020-21 as they’re off to a 4-0 start. Coleman knocked a game-winning fall-away step back shot with 0.1 seconds remaining to lift the Longhorns to a marquee victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels 69-67 to win the Maui Invitational title.

Coleman took home MVP honors in the Maui Invitational after his 22-point out. The 6-foot-2 point guard is averaging 16.3 points, 5.0 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. In their 66-44 victory over the Indian Hoosiers, Texas was on the right side of history. The Longhorns held the Indiana Hoosiers to their lowest point total since 2010 (44 points) in their quest to the championship.

He’s averaging a career-high in points and assists per game as head coach Shaka Smart has his squad off to a strong start to the 2020-21 season. He’s also shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from 3-point range. Coleman has made at least two 3-pointers in all four of the Longhorns’ games this season. Look for him to make some more noise when Big 12 play ramps up.

Coleman will have a chance to continue his stellar play when the Longhorns face the Villanova Wildcats at 1:00 PM on the east coast in the Big East/Big-12 Battle.
