NCAA Basketball: Luka Garza, Drew Timme among top-10 POY contenders
7. Cade Cunningham | 6’8 Guard/Forward | Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State Cowboys hybrid -forward Cade Cunningham is the first member of the freshmen class to make the list. He’s a 6-foot-8 versatile prospect that can do a little bit of everything and pretty much has in 2020-21.
Cunningham has given reason to believe that anything is possible this season in the Big 12 with him on the floor. He posted 21 points and 10 rebounds in his debut game with the Cowboys in a 75-68 win over UT-Arlington. He shot 7-of-16 from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point range.
In their 84-71 win over the Oakland Grizzlies on Saturday night, he put up 18 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block while shooting 6-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
He’s producing 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from 3-point range for the Cowboys as they remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0.
Cunningham is one of a few prospects with “one-and-done” potential to make waves so far on the national scene. Another freshman name to keep an eye on: LSU Tigers guard Cam Thomas. He’s putting up 24.3 points per game to lead all freshmen in 2020-21.
