NCAA Basketball: Luka Garza, Drew Timme among top-10 POY contenders
5. Marcus Carr | 6’2 Point Guard | Minnesota Golden Gophers
Point guard Marcus Carr has found his way on the hardwood this season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He’s off to a hot start scoring the ball as the Golden Gophers are off to a 4-0 start to the 2020-21 season.
He’s putting up a career-high 26.5 points per game to go along with 6.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per contest through his first four contests for Minnesota. He’s shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from 3-point land as well, making a strong early case for National Player of the Year in the process.
The impressive thing for Carr is how he’s managed to still distribute the ball while also scoring the ball at a high clip. He’s put up at least three assists in their first four games while still showing he’s not afraid to lead down the stretch. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he put up a triple-double or two this season.
With so much talent in the Big Ten this season, Carr has turned heads already with his stellar play. He opened this season with 35 points against Green Bay.
He’s also got 6-foot-6 Both Gach to share the backcourt duties. Gach is posting 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor. Look for them to do their more damage against Boston College in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday night.
