South Carolina Gamecocks

For the second week in a row, South Carolina makes this list.

After losing to Liberty in the Gamecock’s opener, we told you that the Houston game on Saturday was a “must-win”. They didn’t get it done and after leading in the first half, absolutely crumbled in the second against Houston’s swarming defense.

AJ Lawson (11.3 Pts, 2.7 Reb, 2.0 Ast), SC’s best player, put up a 5 points, 3 assists, 4 rebound line, which is just not going to get it done against a team as good as the Cougars and raises some serious questions on if this is even a bubble team.

Whether they are or not, South Carolina has done itself no favors early on this season. An 11 point win over Tulsa last week is a solid result, but will not move the needle come Selection Sunday and they only have one more non-conference game that MIGHT help against Clemson on December 19th.

After that, Frank Martin’s team will face an SEC conference that is deeper than it has been in some time but will not give them the multitude of opportunities for quality resume-building wins as bubble teams will get in the Big Ten, Big 12, or ACC.

Regardless of how damaging this past week was for the Gamecock’s resume, they just don’t really look like a good team. They cannot score, putting up only 66 points per game, and AJ Lawson has failed to be the best player on the floor, which he needs to be for them to be successful.

For these reasons, South Carolina has earned a spot on Busting Bracket’s biggest losers list in back to back weeks.
