NCAA Basketball: Missouri, San Diego State rise in latest power rankings
After getting their game against Louisville canceled, the Badgers were able to get Atlantic 10 program Rhode Island as a replacement. The Badgers went out to a big lead in the first half and held on to a 73-62 win. The best part of the game for the team was senior Brad Davison breaking out of his early-season slump to score a game-high 23 points, making up for Nate Reuvers going for just five points after being saddled with foul trouble all game.
With Northern Iowa canceling their game this week, Wisconsin will have to yet again look for another opponent or wait until Nebraska next Monday.
The Seminoles had their first real tests of competition this past week in the Indiana Hoosiers and Florida Gators. It also was the first true test of star point/forward Scottie Barnes. The freshman came through on both occasions, including making the game-winning field goal to beat Indiana and scoring 17 points, including an emphatic dunk to beat the Gators.
With MJ Walker averaging 17 ppg and showing that he can be a leading scorer, Florida State is in a strong position to once again contend for an ACC title. Home games with Georgia Tech and UCF await them this upcoming week.
The Mountaineers were able to rebound from their defeat to Gonzaga by beating both Georgetown and North Texas. Neither game was particually pretty but that’s the nature of games involving West Virginia. Miles McBride and Sean McNeil continue to lead the way in the backcourt but Oscar Tshiebwe’s minutes have been declining in favor of Gabe Osabuohien, who has become an emerging player in the rotation. That’s something to watch to see if it becomes a pattern.
