D’Mitrik Trice versus Carlik Jones

Nothing thickens the plot of a basketball game more than when the crucial match-up is between two players at the most crucial of positions. Even basketball purest who long for the game of basketball to be played similar to the days of yesteryear is unable to ignore the value of a point guard to the success of a basketball team.  This particular matchup should be appreciated come Saturday as a couple of pieces had to fall into place in order to have D’Mitrik Trice and Carlik Jones oppose each other.

The 6’0 D’Mitrik is the on-court general for Wisconsin Basketball after having played in just ten games as a sophomore prior to getting a redshirt. Secondly, the 6’1 Carlik Jones had to transfer from Radford in order to lead the Louisville Cardinals this season Currently, both players are having success beyond just their statistics and will present each other with their toughest foe yet.

While starting the Badgers’ six games of 2020-21 Trice is averaging twelve points, on 41 percent shooting. Jones, on the other hand, has started the Cardinals’ four games and is averaging 17 points, seven rebounds, and over five assists per game. Things have been easy for Jones as three of their four games were victories of at least 20 points.

The opposing guards will be challenged defensively as well. Trice leads Wisconsin in field goals attempted, yet trails Jones who averages 13.3 by approximately five attempts per game, and himself attempts the most field goals on Louisville. The back and forth between two guards that have offensive and defensive responsibilities is a storyline worth watching play out.
