Reasons for Hope: Similar to Northwestern last season, they have not lost to an inferior team this year. Overall, they are improved from last season and they seem to have more depth and balance.

Reasons to be Pessimistic: Not one of their wins up to this point has been against a quality opponent. They have only played one road game and for that game, they did not travel far and or compete in the 2nd half against Creighton. They couldn’t find a way to defeat Nevada on their home court in a game in which they should have won.

Brief Overview of the Season

The Cornhuskers may have once again, the biggest roster turnover out of any Big Ten school. On paper with what they lost from graduation and transfers, you would believe that Nebraska is in serious contention from finishing 2nd from the last place in the Big Ten this season.

However, head coach Fred Hoiberg knows a few things about getting transfers and filling out a roster from his time as when he was the head coach at Iowa State. The Cornhusker’s transfers are well documented and some like Teddy Allen are having more of a bigger impact than others.

Hoiberg may not have had a successful run coaching in the NBA but he know the landscape of college basketball and continues to build his program at Nebraska. The Cornhuskers may not compete for Big Ten titles for a year or even two but Nebraska is a team to watch out for in the future.

Nebraska should able to hold off Northwestern in their pursuit to not finish in last place in the Big Ten. It is only Fred Hoiberg’s 2nd year as the Nebraska head coach but the struggles lately have been somewhat disappointing after a 3-1 start. You can witness the fact that he is trying still install his identity that he wants his team to have and play with going into next season.

However, for now, Nebraska is still trying to navigate through the season as they begin Big Ten play and as they continue to attempt to compete in Big Ten play in hopes of building momentum and finishing not in the bottom tier of the Big Ten this season. Nebraska next plays at Wisconsin on Tuesday.
