Kentucky vs Louisville: 5 storylines for 2020-21 rivalry matchup
The Cam’Ron Fletcher saga
Much like the Wildcats poor start to the season, the reason why Coach Calipari has asked Fletcher to:
"“reflect and do some soul searching to get his priorities in order.”"
is a mystery to media and fans alike. In a nutshell, with 3:19 left in the Kentucky versus North Carolina game Coach Calipari subbed Fletcher, at 2:01 Fletcher was crying on the sidelines being consoled by the Kentucky strength coach, and then with 1:01 left in the game, video of the sideline shows Fletcher no longer on the bench.
One of two things will happen and it will set the tone for Kentucky as SEC play begins three days after the Louisville matchup. If the Wildcats lose, to a Louisville team who are better than them, Coach Calipari will be viewed as having lost complete control of the team and the prospect of Coach Calipari underachieving to the greatest extent will have many rejoicing.
The other option is that Kentucky plays to their actual potential and come out with a victory. In this scenario, it will be deemed that the end justifies the means and Coach Calipari will be viewed as getting his team back. The hope is that these kids have not given in to the concept that going to Kentucky means you are going to the NBA, therefore they have no interest in an NCAA season.
Kentucky is not at the level of Alabama, Georgetown, or Maryland who had five players enter the transfer portal prior to the 2020-21 season, however, when Quade Green and Khalil Whitney are taken into consideration, this will be the third year in a row Coach Calipari had a player leave prior to the season ending.
