Baylor Basketball: 3 takeaways from Bears victory over Central Arkansas

Johnathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua continues to bring an energy
Even with the incredible difficulty of pronouncing his full name, Tchatchoua plays just as hard. With the departure of Freddie Gilespie last season, it became a major question mark heading into 2020-2021. Although Tchatchoua isn’t quite as experienced, his energy and athleticism exceed Gilespie’s.
The sophomore transfer from UNLV, Tchatchoua has averaged 10.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per contests. Tchatchoua has done it all while averaging a little under 60 percent from the field.

His energy with the defensive play and ability to soar high for a lob to create momentum. He continued to do that on Tuesday, with 12 points. All six of his shots made were near the rim and half of them, being off of lobs.
Baylor’s true center is Flo Thamba and starts for the Bears. Even if Tchatchoua comes off the bench, it’s a smart idea from Scott Drew. NBA Veteran Taurean Prince spent a season as a member on the bench and was awarded Sixth Man of the Year. Although both players have different playing styles, their roles on the team are eerily similar.
Tchatchoua would finish with 13 points and 11 rebounds. On a team that lacks true height at the forward position, the energy from Mark Vital and Tchatchoua makes up for the lack of height. The athleticism they bring makes the Bears front court among the best in CBB.
