Marcus Williams | 6’2 Point Guard | Wyoming Cowboys

The Mountain West Conference has a strong National Freshman of the Year case on its hands with Wyoming Cowboys point guard Marcus Williams in the fold. Williams has emerged as a freshman name, producing 17.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game through the first eight games of the season.

Williams ranks second among freshman in scoring and 11th in assists per game for a team that won two games in the Mountain West Conference a season ago. This season, they’ve already got their first victory at 1-0 in the MWC and have a record of 7-1.

He’s already set a career-mark of 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field against the University of Denver back on December 9. He also dished out five assists and snagged three steals in the 83-61 victory. As he improves on his 3-point shooting, look for his star to continue to grow.

Things are off to a solid start under first-year head coach Jeff Linder and point guard Marcus Williams. The Cowboys haven’t made the NCAA Tournament since the 2014-15 season but with a freshman leading the charge, things could change for them.
