Kentucky at Florida: 2020-21 storylines for SEC matchup
High-quality shots
One does not need to be a basketball savant to be aware of the fact that the more shots you make, the better chance you have of winning. The importance for each of these teams to get quality scoring opportunities is, however, an undeniable storyline come Saturday. The rate at which these two teams connect on their two-point field goals is almost as big as a difference as the friendship between Groucho Marx and T.S. Eliot.
For all the criticism Mike White faces due to his perceived inability to utilize his players effectively, the Florida Gators are averaging 82.8 points per game, No.34 in Division I basketball. Those 82.8 points are based on their almost 58 percent shooting from inside the arc which is top 30 in Division I.
The surprising stat is that the Gators are not even in the top 130 when it comes to field goal attempts. By attempting just 19 three-pointers per game, the Gators depend on getting close to the rim and scoring.
The Gators should get more than a few verses Kentucky who give up more made two-point field goals than over 200 other Division I teams. To compare to the 18.5 two-point makes against Kentucky per game, Florida has 14.3 made against them. With Kentucky barely cracking the top 300 in three-point percentage and sitting at No.275 in two-point percentage, obtaining quality shots is a major storyline beyond the obvious.
