Maryland Basketball: Takeaways from blowout loss vs. No. 5 Iowa
Terps were one dimensional
The Terps couldn’t make much of a difference in the paint because the Hawkeyes did an excellent job of collapsing on driving lanes in the paint.
As a result, Maryland had to become a three-point shooting team. They were one dimensional at that point. When that happens, the other team has control of the game.
They only had six attempts, six attempts at the free-throw line the entire game. You can’t win basketball games that way. That’s where a guy like Anthony Cowan Jr. was pivotal. He lived at the free-throw line and usually had to get back up off the ground after getting hit and drawing fouls.
Maryland basketball doesn’t have a guy like that on the roster, and while this loss was expected, it doesn’t make it sting any less. The Terps couldn’t attack the Hawkeyes zone with much success and while they had a play here and there go their way, it wasn’t enough to win.
