NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett
Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines were one of the original five finalists for Burnett, along with Oregon, Alabama, Louisville, and Texas Tech of course. Right now, the team in Ann Arbor looks the best out of all of them, currently 10-0 on the season and ranked in the top 10. Freshman big man Hunter Dickinson is getting national praise and head coach Juwan Howard is a rising star in NCAA Basketball.
With guards Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, and Eli Brooks all being seniors, there’s a need for some experience for next year to go with what should be another very talented roster. Burnett could have a big impact at either guard position if he wanted to be a lead-ball-handler, as they currently don’t have a proven true point guard on the 2021-22 roster.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Starting point guard Marcus Carr is having an All-American campaign right now and will likely be off to the NBA this offseason. Outside of freshman guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., there’s no other quality ball-handler on the roster to take his place for next season. This would be a great opportunity for Burnett to possibly come in and be his replacement and showcase his on-ball skills.
After a great start to the season, head coach Richard Pitino is nowhere near the hot seat. That should allow him to target transfers more easily next offseason, including those like Burnett who could be highly impactful here. After seeing the success of the other transfers such as Carr, this program could be a destination spot for future players looking for a new home.
