Big 12 Basketball: Baylor, Texas remain on top in 2020-21 power rankings

After years of below expectations from Austin, Shaka Smart has his best team yet. It was a group, combined with experience, freshman talent, and a knack for consistency. Texas started the week off with a close win over Iowa State.
Even if it was not the most impressive defensive performance, it was a gutty win from the Longhorns. Andrew Jones chipped in 23 points on 10-20 shooting. There were three Longhorns that had eight or more rebounds on the day and shot 45 percent from the field.
There would be a step up in competition, however, with the Longhorns traveling to face No. 14 West Virginia. The Longhorns through a rough shooting night escaped with heroics from Andrew Jones.

The man that fought for his life with Leukemia just three years ago. He has been a massive part of the Longhorns’ unique run and has climbed them into a high national ranking.
Texas finished the game on a 7-0 run and two missed free throws from Emmitt Matthews helped the Horns. Jones was the only player to make a three-pointer and he had all four of them for the Longhorns. Similar to the top-ranked teams, Texas can not afford to shoot that poor from the field and still win.
Texas will get back to back home games next week, starting with Texas Tech. They will play on Saturday against Kansas State.
