Big 12 Basketball: Baylor, Texas remain on top in 2020-21 power rankings
By Andrew Tineo
The lone reason why Kansas State isn’t at the bottom is because of their win over Iowa State. Kansas State’s expectations have started to dwindle since their Big 12 title run two seasons ago.
They traveled on the road and had a respectful effort against Texas Tech. Tech struggled mightily from beyond the arc, shooting just 22 percent.
Mike McGuirl has been the leader of the season. However, it was Nijel Pack and Selton Miguel that were the leading scorers in the contest. They both went for 17 points apiece and shot 5-11 from beyond the arc.
They would come back home on Saturday to play Cade Cunningham-led Oklahoma State. With Cunningham scoring just five points and taking three shots, there’s a good chance Kansas State could win this game. It was also not known that starting point guard Nijel Pack would be out for COVID-19 reasons.
McGuirl once again led the Wildcats with 15 points. However, Oklahoma State shot 75 percent in the second half and made it’s last 13 field goals to seal the game up. Bruce Weber’s program has been in full rebuild mode and it doesn’t seem like much progression this season.
Kansas State will stay home on Wednesday when facing off against Iowa State. They will then travel to play No. 4 Texas.
