Big 12 Basketball: Baylor, Texas remain on top in 2020-21 power rankings
By Andrew Tineo
Texas Tech bounced back with a solid win over Kansas State in Lubbock. Big 12 wins are hard to come by and every single one counts in hope of making the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown transfer Mac McClung led the Red Raiders with 16 points on shooting 6-11 from the field. He added four rebounds and two assists.
Even with the win, the Red Raiders would take a hit to their future. Former five star and Top 20 recruit made a decision that would deplete their bench.
Offense was not an issue for the Red Raiders on Saturday, as they dismantled Iowa State. The Red Raiders rattled off 91 points and had four players in double figures. Texas Tech had 18 free throws made and shot nearly 59 percent from the field.
The leading scorer came from All-Big 12 Kyler Edwards, who finished with 19 points on 6-9 from the field. McClung was efficient on the night, shooting eight of 10 from the field on only two three-point attempts. Texas Tech did an excellent job in shutting down the Cyclones bench.
Iowa State had just four bench points and was reliant on just a handful amount of guys to carry the production.
If Texas Tech can have McClung take fewer three-pointers and focus on penetration, this team could make some serious noise in March. Texas Tech has its toughest week of the season coming up with two top 5 matchups. They have a road game against Texas on Wednesday and a home game with Baylor.
