Big 12 Basketball: Baylor, Texas remain on top in 2020-21 power rankings
By Andrew Tineo
Kansas was thoroughly beaten like they have not seen before against Texas at home. To say they bounced back against TCU is an understatement. The Jayhawks had five players in double figures as they handled the Horned Frogs, 93-64.
After shooting 3-23 against the Longhorns, the Jayhawks shot 40 percent from beyond the arc. They also had 14 offensive rebounds and dominated the glass, 40-18. David McCormack had his most efficient offensive game of the year, finishing with 20 points. He led all scorers and shot 7-9 from the field. Adding in six of six from the free throw line and eight rebounds.
The leading scorer on the season in Jalen Wilson finished with 16 points in the contest. He shot 50 percent from the field and added eight rebounds to go along with his six assists and one turnover. Wilson has been a huge offensive spark for the Jayhawks and has filled in what has seemed to be a vacant hole.
After missing the TCU game, Marcus Garrett would return for the Jayhawks. Garrett gives them a defensive threat on the perimeter for their contest with Oklahoma.
Kansas survived a scare from Oklahoma and got another excellent offensive performance from David McCormack. McCormack finished with 17 points and two blocks, but just one rebound. The junior connected on eight of his 14 shots and was excellent on defense.
Only one player from Oklahoma scored in double figures and the Sooners did not shoot well from beyond the arc. It is alarming for a team to play Kansas close without their best scorer. Big 12 wins are hard to come by and Kansas will certainly take a win against an NCAA Tournament caliber team.
Kansas heads on the road on Tuesday to face Oklahoma State. They will finish the week with a Saturday home game with Iowa State.
