Pac-12 Basketball: Oregon, UCLA continues to stay on top of power rankings
1. UCLA Bruins
The Number 1 team in the power rankings is UCLA. The Bruins are 5-0 in the conference and 9-2 overall. They are coming off of a sweep against the Arizona schools where they won 81-75 against Arizona State and 81-76 against Arizona. They played well in those two games without their best player Chris Smith who tore his ACL.
The Bruins are a balanced team with Jamie Jaquez leading them in scoring with 12.8 points per game. Tyger Campbell is averaging 11.6 points per game and 6.5 assists. In a weekly press conference, Washington State’s Head Coach Kyle Smith called Campbell “the head of the snake”.
He’s doing a very good job taking care of the ball and controlling the offense. He has quickly turned into one of the best guards in the PAC. Johnny Juzang a transfer from Kentucky is a good defender that is scoring 11.4 points a game. Big man Cody Riley also adds 10.1.
The Bruins are 28th in Kenpom and 11th on offense this year. With the coaching of Mick Cronin, the offense, and toughness this team plays with. They will be a hard team to beat. Right now, they are the best team in the PAC 12.
The Pac 12 is an Interesting Conference, there is certainly a group of teams that are going to be in connection for the NCAA tournament. I think 1-4 for the most part the teams are pretty close with a gap separating 5-6, 7-8, and the 9th place team. Eight of these teams with maybe Washington State are kind of gonna beat each other up, I think. You can expect some more movement for the rest of the season.
