11. California Bears

The 11th place team in my power rankings is Cal. The Bears are currently 11th in the conference. Cal is 6-7 on the year and 1-5 in the conference. They are without their best player Matt Bradley who currently has an ankle injury. Cal is coming off a 1-1 homestand to the Washington schools where they lost to Washington State 71-60 and beat Washington 84-78.

Mark Fox has done a really good job at Cal so far. The Bears are a well-coached group who definitely don’t beat themselves. They were the worst Power 5 team in college basketball under their old coach Wyking Jones ranking 241st in Kenpom and with a defense in the 300’s. But have done a lot better over the last two years ranking 153rd in 2020 and 147 this year overall.

With looking at the rest of the roster, Grant Anticevich is a nice player who is really fundamentally sound. He just came back from injury against Washington State. Andre Kelly is a solid big who has good touch from the mid-range and can bang inside and Joel Berry is a quick tough guard.

This Cal team plays really tough and physical but outside of Bradley just doesn’t have a whole lot of talent. I think it’s going to be hard for Cal to be above 10th in the standings. With Bradley out of the lineup, I don’t think they are going to be able to win enough games to move up the standings.

Washington is the only team in the league without a conference win. Right now they are the 12th team in my power rankings.
