Pac-12 Basketball: Oregon, UCLA continues to stay on top of power rankings
8. Utah Utes
The Utah Utes got off to a little bit of a late start to their season but are currently 4-5 and 1-4 in conference play. The Utes are having lost four in a row including the last two against Oregon 79-73 and Colorado 65-58.
Timmy Allen is the best player on this Utah team, the Junior Forward from Mesa Arizona is averaging 15.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds. The only other double-digit scorer is Alfonso Plumer at 13.2 points per game up from 8.4 the year before. Plummer who is known as a quality shooter, especially after his performance against Oregon State in the PAC 12 tourney last year is shooting 35% on six attempts.
The Utes are 73rd on Kenpom which is much higher than the previous two years before when they were 109th and 114th. They are also one of the younger teams in the country ranked 273rd in the country of Kenpom’s experience metric.
Utah is a pretty good team; I think they are clearly better than the bottom-four teams but not good enough to crack the top half. The Utes are really young, and I think next year you could be talking about a potential NCAA tourney bid but right now they are 8th in my power rankings.
