4. Seton Hall Pirates (9-5, 6-2 Big East)

The Pirates felt like they had turned the corner after bouncing back from their 1-3 start to go 7-1 during the next eight games. Seton Hall entered their matchup on January 6th with momentum against Creighton. However, the Pirates had a rough game shooting 3-for-18 from three-point range (16.7 percent) and lost to Creighton 89-53.

Last Saturday, the Pirates were able to turn it around against DePaul. Despite 20 total turnovers, Seton Hall was able to knock off the Blue Demons 76-68.

Much of the Pirates scoring production this season has been through senior forward, Sandro Mamukelashvili (18.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 3.2 apg), and junior guard, Jared Rhoden (15.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg). The terrific duo of Mamukelashvili and Rhoden has helped to lead the Pirates in scoring and rebounding, while also leading the conference in free throws made.

Seton Hall has the ability to draw fouls and can get to the free-throw line often. The Pirates are currently first in the Big East in free throw attempts and makes, and second in the conference in free-throw shooting percentage.

Seton Hall was scheduled to have a rematch on Saturday against Xavier. The Pirates handed Xavier its lone home loss of the season 85-68 on December 30th. However, the Seton Hall versus Xavier rematch on Saturday has been postponed due to COVID-19 within Xavier’s program.

Next up on the schedule for Seton Hall will be a road contest at Villanova on Tuesday night. The Pirates will get first crack at Villanova, as the Wildcats are set to return back to the court for their first game of the new year on Tuesday.
