Jim Christian – Boston College Eagles

There was a time over a decade ago when Boston College was a pretty solid program in college basketball. In the 2000’s alone, the Eagles made seven NCAA Tournaments, but haven’t been back to the Dance since 2009. This season, they’ve opened up 3-10, with the wins coming against Rhode Island, Maine, and Miami. They’ve played a tough schedule but three wins in mid-January is unacceptable even during a limited nonconference season.

Jim Christian took over as head coach in 2014 after previously leading Kent State, TCU, and Ohio. He’s had varying levels of success at those jobs, but it’s fair to say that things have bottomed out at Boston College. It’s hard to forget that Christian was already head coach back in 2016 when the Eagles were clean swept in ACC play, and things have not greatly improved since.

Last season’s team tied for 10th place in the ACC, which is the program’s best finish under Christian’s leadership. The way things have started this season, they are not improving on that finish, already 1-6 in conference play.

Christian is a head coach who has certainly been on the hot seat before, and it’s an impressive feat that he’s made it to year seven with a program that failing to compete in this league. Christian is firmly on the hot seat and it would be surprising if he survives another offseason.
