Florida Gators
When Keyontae Johnson collapsed against Florida State back in December, the thought of basketball went completely out the window for most of the Gators community. Thankfully, Johnson is feeling better and his Gators’ teammates have picked up the pace in his absence. In recent play, Florida is showing that they are going to be a competitor in this deep and talented SEC.
Tuesday marked the best performance for the Gators, as an all-around effort by the team led to a 26-point win against #6 Tennessee. Noah Locke’s 14 points led the way for the Gators, who played great defense against those Volunteers. The Gators got another nice win on Saturday at Georgia, with Tre Mann’s 24 points helping them to their second road win of the season.
Florida suddenly finds themselves 23rd in KenPom and 26th in the latest NET rankings. With the wins this week, the Gators are now 5-3 in the SEC and in much better position to contend for the conference crown. This is a talented and balanced roster that can certainly compete, though they did struggle against Alabama and Kentucky at the beginning of the month.
Florida is a bubble team and their big win over Tennessee is going to be a major piece in building their resume down the stretch. It’s always a big deal when you can beat a top 10 team by more than 25 points and having that victory in their pocket will do wonders for the Gators. Not only does it strengthen said resume, but you never know the confidence that win gives the team, especially with a battle against West Virginia looming.
