Oklahoma Sooners

Initially, it looked as if there was a clear divide in the Big 12. There were five teams in the top 25, all of whom have spent time in or near the top 10, and five teams in the bottom tier of the league. It’s clear after a month of conference play that this divide is much smaller than it seemed. While Kansas has had their struggles, the teams from the Sooner State have taken advantage.

Oklahoma took care of business this week and asserted that they should be in that top group in the Big 12. First, the Sooners whacked Kansas State on the road, knocking off the Wildcats by 26. Then, they knocked off Kansas on Saturday, getting 22 points from De’Vion Harmon and handing the Jayhawks their third straight loss on the year.

The Sooners are 5-3 in Big 12 play and their 9-4 record doesn’t look too shabby at this point in the year. There were just ranked 24th in the latest AP Top 25 and their recent play has put them in great position for the future. Their three conference losses were to the other great teams in the league, and as long as they can avoid a bad loss in Big 12 play, Oklahoma should be in good position to be pleased on Selection Sunday.

Their play this week was great, but they’ll need to be even better this upcoming week, with a road trip to Texas and a home date with Alabama on the horizon. You’d better believe Oklahoma would be back on this list with a pair of big wins, but either way, they are certainly putting themselves in a great position in the near future. Oklahoma is a competitor in this tough Big 12.
