Many of the names on this list are going to be talented assistant coaches, as Fordham seems to be the kind of job where a young name who can hit big on the recruiting trail can have success. That being said, it doesn’t help if you have a winning pedigree as an assistant coach, and that’s certainly what Caputo would bring to the Rams.

A New York native, he has spent most of his coaching career under Jim Larranaga at both George Mason and Miami. He played a major role from the bench in the Patriots’ run to the Final Four back in 2006, one of college basketball’s greatest underdog stories in recent memory. He’s spent the last decade helping Larranaga turn the Hurricanes into an ACC contender.

Caputo is long overdue for his shot as a head coach, as he’s seen fellow assistants like Michael Huger and Eric Konkol get their shots in recent years. Fordham would be an inviting chance for him to coach in a prestigious conference back where he grew up. It’s been over a decade since he lived and worked in that area of the country, but his roots run deep. Caputo’s been waiting for his moment; could he and Fordham be a fantastic marriage?
