Steve DeMeo

If you’re looking for someone who’s been a fantastic head coach while also a deserving assistant coach, then DeMeo may be your man. He’s never been a head coach at the D1 level, but his work across the last three decades is more than deserving of a look by the Fordham brass.

DeMeo was a very successful head coach at a number of low-level institutions, including Monroe Junior College and most recently at Northwest Florida State, where he was one of the best junior college coaches in the nation. He’s currently serving his second season on Mike Anderson’s staff at St. John’s, but has previous assistant coaching experience with Hofstra, Iona, and spent ten years on the Providence bench.

Back when he was on the Providence bench, he was actually a candidate for the Fordham job some 18 years ago when Bob Hill was fired by the Rams. This time, DeMeo has even more experience, both as a D1 assistant and as a head coach. He’s certainly played a major role in strengthening the St. John’s program since his arrival, especially due to his familiarity with the northeast throughout his career. It’s time DeMeo gets a shot to run his own program, and that success leading a program (even a junior college) cannot be overlooked.
