When an A10 job like Fordham opens up, the candidates that usually get brought up rather quickly are the local lower major head coaches. Typically, the younger head coaches still gathering experience leading a program will get the looks for jobs like these, especially if they want to move up in the coaching ranks. With all due respect to all involved, Holloway will be a candidate for this job, but would it be smart for him to take it?

Holloway starred at point guard at Seton Hall just before the turn of the century. After an international playing career, he’d begin his coaching career on Kevin Willard’s bench at Iona in 2007. Holloway returned to his alma mater three years later when Willard got the Seton Hall job and helped Willard rebuild his program into Big East contention again. In 2018, Holloway took the head coaching job at Saint Peter’s and in three years has done a fantastic job in building a MAAC contender, finishing 2nd place in the league last season after a rough first season.

Despite what we said earlier, Holloway is certainly deserving of a promotion and could do wonders with this Fordham program. He’s certainly familiar with the area and would likely improve the school’s recruiting ability. This could also be a great stepping stone for Holloway. Consider the case of Jamion Christian, who moved from Mount St. Mary’s to Siena to George Washington in barely 12 months. Holloway has a bright future ahead; he can certainly jumpstart this troubled Fordham program along the way.
